Are you going to work while you travel?
Although I (Justin) currently work remotely for a consulting company, my last day will be 26-Sep-2008. Although Natalie and I will not be (in all likelihood) working professional jobs abroad, we are currently planning on working from time to time. This may include, manual labor, English tour guides, farm work, etc. I suspect that these jobs will not be profitable but they will serve to provide extra funds or as a trade from room and board. In addition, Natalie and I are both qualified ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers. If we have the opportunity, we may take short term jobs as ESL teachers.

What is a Hostel?
A hostel is not, as one enterprising friend believed, a homeless shelter. A hostel is a low budget hotel where a person can rent a bed. Often, but not always, these beds are located in large dorm rooms where many bunk beds are lined up in rows – not unlike military barracks. Guest often make use of shared bathrooms, kitchens and common rooms. Due to the usually transient nature of those individuals who stay in a hostel, guest are not allowed to bring the own bedding into the hostel as bed bugs and other pesky critters are typically attempting to hitchhike to greener pastures.
What is your itinerary?
Unlike many American “vacations” it is impractical for Natalie and I to plan out each step of our journey. Thus we have a very general plan that we intend, for the moment, to follow. At the same time, we are open to new ideas and will be flexible enough to change this as needed or desired. Our very loose itinerary is as follows.
Detroit-> Rome ->Croatia -> Albania -> Greece -> Turkey -> New Zealand -> Indonesia -> Thailand -> China -> Tibet -> Nepal -> India -> Tajikistan -> Iran -> North America.
If we follow this plan I will be shocked, surprised, and pleased. Stay tune….
Why are you doing this?

Probably the biggest advantage of staying in a hostel is that they are very social places. If you stay in a hotel it isn’t often that you’ll interact with that many people, but in a hostel it’s nearly impossible to avoid.
