Much Love for the Kiwi Immigration Department

New Zealanders, or Kiwis, that I have met here in Ireland have given Natalie and I a lot to think about in regards to whether or not we would be able to get a 1 year holiday working visa in New Zealand. To add to our nervousness, a New Zealand guide book we were checking out at a book store in Galway informed us that Crossiant breakfeast on the beach at Tossa de Mar.JPGworking visa spots were limited and that we should apply as soon as possible. Yikes! Well, I went back to the apartment (all lodging begins to feel the same after a while so instead of trying to remember the name of each hostel I simply refer to all of them collectively as “the apartment”) and applied online at the New Zealand Immigration site. About 24 hours later I found out that we were approved for the 1 year Holiday Work Visa. Sweet! Seriously, I was really surprised at how quickly they processed our applications. I am not sure if we will stay in New Zealand for the next year or not, but I am happy to have the flexibility and the ability to work legally while enjoying the exotic wonderfulness that I hope is New Zealand.

Although not taken in Ireland (those pictures are coming soon), the above image adequately captures are current level of excitement.

Sadly, we are currently in London where it is cold and raining. Thanks for the thought though.

Jeff, their route has been slightly difficult to figure out, the details of their route were posted in September.

By the way, are you two locked in for just a year, having to be back? Well, from New Zealand, southeast Asia is not far away. Working and living in New Zealand sounds like a good idea, although a year goes fast.

I have travel the Middle East for the last year and believe me it seems like a few months, I will be in Israel for the winter.

@Shawn - Our New Zealand work holiday visas lock us in for a year in New Zealand, but we are not locked into a year in regards to how long we will be traveling.

New Zealand is really close to South East Asia and that will certainly be our next stop after New Zealand.

Enjoy Israel this winter, are you currently there?

This way when get back to Athens in mid February I will slowly head north through Eastern Europe for 2009 to Poland.

Be sure to stop by the market in Istanbul. I have heard it’s really great.

And a secret about my grandma, the one I have shared about being born in Italy. Last year, her and my grandpa visited Istanbul and she said it was one of her favorite places in the world.
