Farewell to Starbucks and Mondays!

Posted on 22 September 2008 by Natalie

Today, is was my last Monday morning (at least for the next year or so) where I needed to wake up and go into the office. Justin and I both celebrated our last Monday’s at the desk. My final day in the cubicle will be Friday.

Tonight marked my final evening at Starbucks. I served my last latte and ground my last beans. I love being a barista as it has given me the opportunity to become a coffee expert. My time at Starbucks as allowed me to appreciate the unique flavors that different geographic areas can infuse into a specific bean during the growing process. I know. This has made me a coffee elitist. Even so, you had better believe I will be sampling all different types of coffee as we travel the world.

As Justin and I finish up both of our final weeks “on the job”, we are both looking forward to our time backpacking. I will even anticipate working and volunteering in other countries. Personally, I would love to work on a farm for a while in New Zealand. Not necessarily for a wage but, simply in exchange for a place to sleep. In addition, teaching English abroad sounds so rewarding.

I know Justin and I have a big adventure ahead, but I am really glad that Monday’s are coming to an end. Monday’s away from a desk sound amazing!

How would you spend your Monday if you didn’t have to be at a desk?

Congratulations on your last Monday…and Tuesday…and Wednesday…at work!! I’m so excited for you and can’t imagine how you must be feeling. Have a fabulous week!!!

  2. Sandy says:

I’m stoked for you guys, and can’t wait to be 7 day’s away from my departure date. Who knows, maybe we’ll run into you all on the road? Till then, I’m stuck with Mon and Tue madness which means I need to get to sleep. I look forward to your updates!

Awesome, indeed a whole new perception of life can be attained without the Monday morning syndrome.

I never have, nor never would work in an Office setting, although I would work at a fun coffee shop, I am just not a coffee drinker.

Time is winding down, how exciting.

Hey if you guys make it over to Australia I still have a ton of friends there that you may be able to stay with! I have a bunch of kiwi friends too, but I think they all live in Australia now.
Just think! In a few months (possibly) you could be trying Sulawesi Coffee IN Sulawesi! Maybe you could have a vegetarian Vienna sausage in Vienna? TOO! ;)

Honestly, you two are amazing. Your sense of adventure is incomparable to anyone else I’ve ever met. I look forward to reading about your adventures, and I wish you all the best!

    God bless,
Kristen (and Andy, Maddie, and Armond)

PS – I’m sure this has come up before, but I still can’t get over how much Justin looks like the mac guy ;)

Gillian and Sandy, your departure will be just around the corner. I promise

Shawn, how are we going to meet up somewhere around the world for coffee? Alright, we can get pizza together!

Paul, my coffee knowledge friend. Know that I will take great notes on the coffee that we try. And if it’s Sulawesi in Sulawesi, you will hear about it!

Krisen, thank you so much for all of the incouragement. I am sure Andy and yourself have quite the adventurous lifestyle as well with Maddie and Armond. How awesome! You are the best mom, they are going to grow up with such a great encouraging role model.

And I don’t know what it is about the “mac guy” and Justin, but they DO look alike. And their mannerisms are similar in some respects as well. It’s sorta creepy sometime. I wonder if Steve Jobs took a look at Justin and a few other mac users and said, “we need that guy”. Who knows?
